About
Wii Media Center is a way to play media files from your computer on your PC. The Wii includes a Picture channel, which does a decent job of displaying pictures and laughable job of playing mp3s. The Picture Channel is hardly a Media Center, and Nintendo should've done a better job. Maybe they will at a future time, but for right now they haven't. This is where the Wii Media Center comes in. You can play MP3 files, video files in the .flv format, and view picture files using the Wii's Internet Channel.
Wii Media Center is not the only Media Center for the Wii available. WiiCR and Wii Media Center X are both excellent media players. However, WiiMC's goal is to be the easiest to use Media Center on the Wii. Just as Nintendo is trying to expand the audience of the Wii away from the hardcore gamer, WiiMC is trying to expand homebrew software so that everyone can use it. WiiMC is a Media Center for the masses. |
